Robert was homeless when he first found Caring Ministries. One Sunday he ended up across the street from the distribution facility, helping a pastor with plumbing. Quickly finishing the work, he asked if there was anything else that he could do. The pastor sent him over to Caring Ministries and he has been there ever since. That was ten years ago.
As a volunteer, Robert has done it all. In his years serving at Caring he has been responsible for sweeping the facilities, loading and unloading boxes, handing out turkeys, driving trucks for food pickups, and much more. He does it all with a smile on his face. While the work is hard, he says it is satisfying to know that he is giving back with his life.
“It’s deeply meaningful for me to be making a difference in the world. It makes me feel good! Caring Ministries is a part of my calling to give back with my life and do God’s work in the neighborhoods of Tucson.”
Robert knows his calling is to help others in need as others have helped him. His story demonstrates the impact Caring Ministries is having in our community on a daily basis. Caring for and providing hope to those in a hard place is what motivates the team, including Robert, to come to work each day. They know stacking boxes and delivering food is about more than just feeding people, it’s about transforming lives. Robert is just one of those lives transformed and now paying it forward. He and the Caring team are committed and willing to do whatever it takes to help others…and it works.
